About The Climate Pledge

The Climate Pledge is a commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. It brings the world’s top companies together to accelerate joint action, cross-sector collaboration, and responsible change.

In 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism co-founded The Climate Pledge. Since then, 460 signatories have joined. These signatories play a critical role in stimulating investments in the development of low-carbon products and services.

The Brief

Industry leaders were attending the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP28) in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, in the United Arab Emirates.

COP28 was a pivotal global gathering addressing climate change challenges, aimed to convene industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss and devise strategies against the climate crisis. 

The Climate Pledge had several key stakeholders and signatures attending the event, so wanted to capture and document their insights, perspectives, and key takeaways.

Project Objectives

The COP28 Content Creation project had several objectives, with the main goal to capture the essence of COP28 through various forms of video content. 

This involved identifying and interviewing key leaders from The Climate Pledge attending the conference, as well as documenting the major themes, initiatives, commitments, and reflections shared during the event by interviewing key spokespeople.

The overall goal was to create a comprehensive narrative that reflected the significant discussions and decisions made at the conference, offering insights into the evolving landscape of climate action and The Climate Pledge’s role in it.

The Approach

The Empower team brought a diverse set of skills suitable for the comprehensive coverage of COP28, due to our experience in attending COP every since 2015. We also had experience in capturing content from varied industries relevant to climate action, such as energy and sustainable business practices. 

Our background in storytelling and content creation enables us to capture the essence of the conference. The team’s abilities around conducting interviews helped to present information in an engaging way, through clear, informative video content. 

Collaboration was key in their process, adapting to the dynamic requirements of the project and often on short turnarounds.

A shared interest between The Climate Pledge and Empower teams in climate action and sustainability underscored our commitment to the project.

The Results

For the COP28 Content Creation project, Empower developed a range of engaging video content for The Climate Pledge.

 The team captured interviews and highlights from the conference and produced daily social-style videos, sharing them across various digital platforms including social media and The Climate Pledge website. 

Empower’s coverage highlighted the importance of collective action and innovation, featuring impactful panels and discussions that underscored the urgency of a just energy transition and the role of women in climate action.

A final task was writing an editorial article around  “Just back from COP28”, summarising the conference’s key themes, enriched with quotes from industry leaders. For more detailed information, you can read the full article on The Climate Pledge website.
