Luke Account Executive 13 December, 2024 • Reading time: 5 minutes Empower Agency's Charities of Choice 2024 Christmas is known as a time for giving. In that spirit, the Empower team has this year continued its annual tradition of donating to a variety of charities, near and dear to our hearts. Each member of our team chose a charity to receive a £100 donation from Empower. Overall, that meant that £1,300 was donated to worthy causes in December. Empower Life “Our annual end of year donations are one of my favourite Empower traditions, aligning to our values to be generous and limit our impact on the planet. We let our clients know that instead of sending them gifts and cards, we’ll be donating instead, and we often receive notes of thanks. I love seeing the causes that our team is passionate about and rounding off the year – which can be stressful – with some perspective.” Jaz Cummins Co-Founder of Empower In 2023, we donated to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders, Speak Up for the Poor and Women for Refugee Women, amongst other causes. You can read more about last year’s charities of choice here. This year, we’ve donated to the following inspirational charities: Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) Two members of Empower’s team have separately chosen to donate to MAP this year. Jaz, Co-Founder of Empower, and Roxanna, Account Executive, both felt very strongly that the suffering of the Palestinian people over the past year is unfathomable. Empower has also previously had the privilege of working with MAP, and so we know firsthand that the work they do is vital to so many. Surfers Against Sewage Andy joined Empower this year as an Account Manager, and he has chosen to donate to Surfers Against Sewage, a charity founded 30 years ago to clean up the sea so that we can all enjoy it without risking illness. “I hope my donation will help Surfers Against Sewage to keep up the pressure on regulators to clean up their act!” Andy Mallinson Account Manager The Or Foundation The Or Foundation was chosen by Ally, Paid Media Executive, as her charity of choice this year. The Or Foundation aims to identify and manifest alternatives to the dominant model of fashion – alternatives that bring forth ecological prosperity, as opposed to destruction. “Late stage capitalism is impacting countries like Ghana (where my family is from) in more negative ways than I can list, one of which is the pile up of excess waste and fast fashion second hand garments being dumped on Ghana’s beaches and towns.” Ally Appau-Bonsu Paid Media Executive The Albert Kennedy Trust (akt) Luke, Account Executive, chose to support the Albert Kennedy Trust (akt), a charity providing routes to safe housing, support and secure futures for young LGTBQ+ people – a community disproportionately impacted by homelessness. “As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I’m so grateful for the work that akt does to get homeless young people out of harm’s way and into secure living conditions.” Luke Williams Account Executive Frank Charles Give a Gift Appeal Hannah B, Account Director, chose to support the Frank Charles Give a Gift Appeal this year; a registered charity dedicated to providing gifts to sick children who are spending their Christmas in hospital. “Frank runs a local food and clothes bank across Waltham Forest and East London providing vital support to so many people who fall through the cracks of more systematic support, including many local families. I’ve been supporting Frank with fundraising and donations for a few years now and have seen the incredible impact that he has, and how important his work is – I know this donation will be so hugely appreciated. The world needs more Franks.” Hannah Brennan Account Director In addition to the aforementioned charities, these causes also received donations from the Empower team: Islamic Relief UK The Trussell Trust Hollingdean Foodbank Waging Peace Young Roots KIND Liverpool For the past ten years, we have been enabling purpose-led organisations to harness digital tools to create and communicate positive change, and we hope that facilitating these team donations reinforces our commitment to supporting charities and nonprofits of many kinds.
