Empower Director Ben Matthews has been selected as a finalist for the 2015 Freelancer of the Year Awards, hosted by IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed. Freelancers from a whole host of sectors applied and the winner will be announced in an awards ceremony in London on National Freelancers Day on 12 November. Chris Bryce, IPSE CEO, commented: “Every year we see a huge number of high-quality pitches – and this one was no exception. We were particularly impressed with the business acumen that many applicants have shown.” The judges were impressed by Ben’s work on the #WalkTogether campaign for British Future, where he worked with a wide group of organisations to engage with people across the UK on social media in a public commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 London bombings. The hashtag was trending worldwide for the day. On being chosen as a finalist Ben said: “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for the IPSE freelancer awards. It’s a great feeling to know that my work has been recognised at a national level and that it might inspire and give confidence to other professionals who are considering working on a freelance basis.” IPSE has split the awards into two categories: the “Aspire” category for finalists aged 23 and under and the “Inspire” category for those aged 24 and over.
