September saw the annual Climate Week NYC event take place and the Empower team were in town for the third year running. Well, virtually this year anyway!Several of our clients made key announcements during the event, so we have been busy working with Race To Zero, SME Climate Hub, Science Based Targets Network, Global Commons Alliance and We Mean Business for the past few months to ensure that they make the most of Climate Week.Here is a round up of what each got up to at Climate Week New York 2020.Race To ZeroRace To Zero is a global campaign to rally; leadership and support from businesses, cities, regions, investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth.At Climate Week, the Race To Zero campaign announced the growth of its coalition of leading net zero initiatives, representing 452 cities, 22 regions, 1,101 businesses, 45 of the biggest investors, and 549 universities. These ‘real economy’ actors join 120 countries in the largest ever alliance committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest. Collectively these actors now cover nearly 25% global CO2 emissions and over 50% GDP.The Empower team created this animated video to show the momentum of the Race To Zero campaign, as well as providing social media support throughout the week for the Race To Zero campaign. The guidance has been produced in consultation with experts from 65+ global environmental organizations, companies, and consultancies from 22 countries. At Climate Week, SBTN launched the first guidance to show companies how to protect and restore nature in line with science by preparing to set science-based targets for nature produced in collaboration by international experts from The Science Based Targets Network.Empower created a social media campaign to launch the guidance, created a streamlined user journey, provided email marketing services to promote the guidance launch to SBTN’s email list, social media monitoring and website analytics reports to draw out insights and recommendations for future campaigns.The Empower team also produced this video, optimised for social media, to promote the launch of the guidance. Their goal is to create the most powerful network to scale science-based action to protect people and planet.The Alliance had an exceptionally busy Climate Week, with announcements including: 64 heads of state pledging to reverse nature loss by 2030Bill Nye kicking off the live launch of a new channel, NowThis Earth#ImagineFor1Minute: A unique film from Greta, the Pope and others to reconnect with our global commonsSpeaker announcements for TED Countdown To facilitate these announcements and provide a home for Global Commons Alliance projects, the Empower team built a WordPress website for the nonprofit to showcase the wide-ranging and impactful projects that the Alliance is working on.
